Rock and Table Salt shouldn't be used for salinty levels. Store-bought brands are best.

The brand is all up to your preference. Popular choices are InstantOcean and Red Sea.

thank you sir.. another question, we know that water evaporates and we know that salt doesnt.. so if my aquarium loses water, what will i add?? ordinary freshwater?? or the mixed salt water?? tnx..
You do a freshwater top-off.

But, this is not water from the tap that has been dechlorinated as you would freshwater. You need RO/DI water. This is Reverse Osmosis/De-Ionized water. It basically means it has all the bad stuff out. You can either buy a RO/DI diffuser, or get store-bought water.

is the ro/di diffuser a bit pricey??[/img]
Unfortuantely, yes. An average price is around $100. But, it may be more helpful in the end. Say a store sells pre-mixed water for 70 cents a gallon. You buy what you need, and go home. Come back when you need more, go home, etc etc. Between the gas prices, water, and the top-offs you need, it will all add up to be more than the diffuser eventually. Plus, you would always have clean water for you and your family. :)

You could try finding a used one on Craigslist.
