nitrate question

Hello,

I have 10 gallon tank up and running for the last 3 months with 6 small/medium sized Angels. I noticed that I have 0 ammonia, 0 nitrites and about 20 - 30 ppm of nitrate every 2-3 days. I don't really want to get into a routine of changing water every 2-3 days ( 25% change), but I suspect i have good bacteria taking care of the ammonia and the nitrites.

I feed the angels every other day and suspect that perhaps a 10 gallon may be too small to accomodate the ammonia output from the fish. Is this a correct assessment?

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks!

ryan

Way to many fish in a 10 gallon tank. 1 of those would be enough for now, and then he's going to outgrow that. So, thats going to have an impact on your parameters, but not the ammonia, or else it would be through the roof right now. What filtration are you running? These habor Nitrates. Are you using RO water? You posted this in the Salt section, but I'm thinkin your using fresh water angels, yes? Next couple of questions would be, how much Live Rock and what kind of Skimmer are in use? Unless this is Fresh Water, then those don't have to be answered.

if fresh water than you would need 5.5 times the tank size you have, you are most likely not seeing amonia or nitritres because your tank is cycled, however you need to either get a bigger tank or get rid of the fish. angel fish get 6 inches in length and even more in height
