need help with hydrometer

I know this sounds stupid but I have used a hydrometer for 3 years I just got a new one because I thought it is old. The new one says the special gravity is 1.030 and the old one says 1.023. I don't. What's going on my fish inverts and coral are doing fine

i dont think that is that much off. but keep in mind you should clean the swing arm every so often with vinegar so salt build up wont affect the reading. also make sure no micro bubbles are on the swing arm. look closely because the bubbles are sometimes hard to see. its best to use a refractometer if you're that concerned.

100 Gal SPS Rimless, 2X250 Watt + 4T5's Giesemann infinity, Bubble King Mini 200 skimmer, Ca reactor, DIY Kalk Reactor. See my Reef aquarium in HD video http://www.fishtanks.net/fishtank.php?fishtank=2207.

it may not be a bad idea to look into refractometers. ebay sells them pretty cheap and they give a much more accurate reading.

at the very least, it might be worth it to try finding someone with a refractometer and use a sharpie to mark what each of the readings actually read out to ( basically calibrate your hydrometer )

I like refractometers over hydrometers. if you plan on investing alot on your fishtank invest in refractos.
