its good to question everything, so some more info? vinegar does 3 things, it is an acid and will lower ph(not! a good reason for using it, the elevation of ph by KW is not an issue unless you are dosing it wrong)

Vinegar can however be added to elevate the amount of KW held in suspension

Vinegar is a carbon source as in a consumable carbon not like charcoal, vinegar is somewhat like adding sugar or vodka and if used without thought can create issues.

Kalkwasser for starting out I suggest 1 tsp per gallon of ro/di water, mixed and allowed to sit for 24 hrs in a sealed container and only use the clear liquid, you can leave the residue in the container and top it up when you get low.
KW will raise your ph very slightly when applied correctly and will do no harm, elevated ph in a reef is a good thing

agreed on all points.. used it in the mix to keep it from plowing my PH up to high to fast as i was dosing high to get the level up.. this worked but was short lived.... so i will not use it to increase the levels again.. next step let everything simply chill for a week or two and then add Cal and Alk in a 2 part format utilizing Kalk to maintain in my top off.....

yup, patience is always key, last thing you need is a crisis lol, a good 2 part to establish and the kw to maintain, unless you have a big demand then you might just as well go to a reactor and be done with it
