High nitrAtes...

So here are todays test results for my tank listed below...

Ammonia - 0
Nitrite - 0
Nitrate - 20
pH - 8.2
dKH - 10
Calcium - 500
Phosphate - 0
Sg - 1.022 (need to raise, I know)

So I am actually noticing an increase in nitrates over the past week or so. It was steady at 15.

I have done two water changes, relatively small, about 10 L. Both were done this week and it seems nitrates have gone up. Should I do a more substantial water change? Tank is just over a month old.

Would it be worth my time to purchase a sulfer nitrate reductor?

What about this product, would you just place it in a phosban reactor set up?

Bartman, you do keep us busy.-)

No, you should not be doing anything to lower Nitrate at this point. I would expect NItrates to continue to climb for the first 3 months. At about this point the denitrifying bacteria in your sand bed should begin to reduce Nitrates. By month 5 or 6, without any help from you, Nitrates should be zero. This is when I personally consider an aquarium to be "mature".

By the way, I appreciate the constant questions. We have some time vested in your tank. I'd rather you ask questions first and leap later. You have been a pleasure to help my friend.

At the very least I hope it is helping others, and I just want to support this forum, keep it alive.
