Brackish Water

I have another question. I have 2 spotted puffers. I know their water is supposed to be brackish. How much salt is this. Right now I have a half a teaspoon of salt to a gallon of water. Is this right someone please let me know. Also I am looking for a 10 gallon tank, which I will hopefully get tomorrow. How much salt should I put in that one and how long should I wait for the water to cycle before I put the fish in the new tank.

Do you have a hydrometer or refractometer? What is the salinity at the moment? What salt are you using?

No and No. Right now they are in a one gallon tank with a half a teaspoon of Aquarium Salt. How would I go about measuring the salinity? By what I have read Puffers like the water on the saltier side, but I don't know what is tooo salty and what is just right. Should I get a hydrometer and refractometer?

You are using the wrong salt. Get marine salt and keep the aquarium salt in your cabinet. You need a hydrometer or refractometer otherwise you risk jumping the salinity too much which will stress and kill your fish. You need a spare bucket to dissolve the salt there and make sure you are measuring the salinity correctly.
