not an intrusion at all and welcome to the board!

much of what you say is pretty technical stuff, at least for me, but i'm sure the more experienced folks here will appreciate your input. i guess i was maybe expecting too much from this product...no water changes for a whole year? yeah, i think that's just too good to be true! :D

Thank you, very kind of you. What I was trying to say is that I stopped my experiment because it worked, and nothing else was happening. I mean I could overfeed, increase the number of fish ... and in a bacterial world, 6 months is the limit of things you want to test. Once they (the bacteria) have established a good balance, only man made activity (such as adding chlorine, leaving the light on for 24 hrs ...) can unbalance their colonies.
In your case, there might have been other parameters that came in to play, the product might have been too old ...
If there is one thing i know bacteria can do better than anything I have looked at thus far, is their cleansing ability.

hmm, interesting! i did discover that the product was almost 1 year past the expiration date and that is most likely why i did not get the good results.
