So say I want to set up a home for like 5 green anoles and I want to have real plants. I read that Ill have to change the substrate like once a month or something, how will this work with real plants?

May I please urge you to get something other than an anole?

They're one of the cheapest reptiles, but are incredibly hard to keep healthy and breed.
They're just captured by the thousands and shipped to stores and things. If you're catching them locally,, why remove them from their home?

Sorry, but I do feel quite strongly about it.

As far as the planting and substrate changing, you could probably just go with a sandy soil substrate and rake it once a week. Enough plants and such and it shouldn't be TOO much of a problem.

Short of that, your only alternative is to keep the plants in pots.

I decided against the anoles, i didnt like the idea of wild caught from the start. Im lookin at bearded dragons or leopard geckos now, at least for the dragons they are like all captive bred. I like the bearded dragon cause they seem to like attention. I saw a baby leopard gecko at the store yesterday which was awesome but there was a blizzard leopard next to him, geckos have to coolest looking eyes in the world.

I have live plants with my Crested Gecko and it is working out great. I just scoop the substrate every week or so. They are great geckos and mine has a great personality and seems to like to be picked up. ( He jumps into my hand when I put it in his terrarium.)
