can fire belly newts chew or dig through styrofoam?

i have a new tank set up for the newt but there was an opening at the top canopy so i stuffed it with stryofoam, i know newts are great climbers or so ive read.. will they beable to push it out or dig through it?

I would say yes if the styrofoam is the loose cell type. I would not use it unless you do not have made sure it can not come apart as your salamandars might eat it mistakingly.

If you can get it, use a fine mesh cloth that you get around a turkey or produce and tape that in place to keep your friends in their tank. Just make sure it is clean and the ho0les are as small as possible. Plastic canvas that you can find in a craft store will also work well for this.
