After my recent post on ich/ white spot, I have just discovered my filter tubing is full of what looks like bacteria stick to the sides of the tubing. This will explain why I'm getting white stuff falling through the water column.
Is this normal?
Should I change the filter tube?
And worse again should I change all my filter media?
No, I don't believe you should change all the filter media. Simply squeeze it out and clean it a bit in old aquarium water. If you replace it all, you will lose most of your good bacteria and get an ammonia spike.
In regards to the bacteria in the filter tubes, my canister filter has it, and it is gross; however, it is brown and not white. You may be able to use some pipe cleaning thing to scrub it out. Or you can replace that. It's likely fine.... My fish seem okay. But, I'm not sure, hopefully somebody knows more about that than me.
