White Spiraling Strings in my tank

For a week now I've been seeing these tiny white strings in my tank. Some curl into a circle, some are shaped into a spiral. They're very small and they don't move but I'm scared they could be parasites that either my betta had (which would explain why he hasn't been eating much) or my plants or snails that came with the plants brought in. I've noticed that the older stringy things have browned a little in color.

Help please? I have API Aquarium Salt and Epsom Salt on hand for medication. Hopefully they're nothing.

I read in a magazine about little white strands that had the capability of zaping fish and sometimes paralizing them. have you lost any fish since the strands showed up?
