I have 3 of these on my Sterbai Cories. well, had 3, seem to have 1 now. I thought ich when I saw the first dot, but then saw it get sucked into it twice, so I'm left with the impression it's hanging from a string on the gill?

I've put paraguard in the tank, as it's all I have, but I need to understand what this is and the best treatment quick.

Ammonia - 0
Nitrite - 0
Nitrate - not registering
PH - 7.6
Temp - 78

They're in a 46 gallon that was set up this week with bio-wheel, gravel and plants from thier previous tank. Last new additions were 4 of my now 7 cories, about 2 weeks ago, so they could have brought something with them.

I do watch my fish closely a lot, haven't seen these before today.

OH NO!!!!!! I just glanced at my tank to see a cory rubbing itself wildly. Something large and white came off and was promptly eaten by a phantom tetra!!!! Please help quick!

Stumped you? well, it gets weirder. A few more of whatever this is came out of gills and got rubbed off, then it stopped. There don't seem to be anymore.

This is just 4 days after a tank change and the tank temp went up 3 degrees over the ccourse of day yesterday because my expensive, fancy light fixture gets so hot (not happy about that). What do you think the odds that this was a die off of something in thier gills? It stilll seems odd, all at once like that, but I did put para guard in after seeing one, then they started to show like crazy.

The fish never seemed bothered by the entire process, except to rub against something to get rid of them. Aside from that, they're eating and breathing just fine and generally acting like cories.

I suppose that's wishful thinking, so I will continue to treat with the Para Guard for a few days. If anyone knows what this is/was, I'd sure like to know. Having just moved to the larger tank, I had plans to add more fish, but.....

Thank you so much for taking time to do that! I went through those posts before posting myself. Didn't see anything that sounded like this, but I did feel ike it would be easy to miss something there. Nice to have a second set of eyes on it.

I'd swear I saaw a picture of something hanging from a gill in one of my books, but I can't seem to find it. I'm thinking flukes myself. I've found references on the web of thier being visible (with other references calling them microscopic). There seems to be agreement out there that they're very hard to completely irradicate.

I'd be quite worried, except at this point the fish are symptom free and even when I seeing the things coming out of thiere gills, they weren't having issues breathing or acting poorly in anyway other than rubbing them off.

I'll continue to treat with paraguard, but I'm not sure how long to do that. The instructions say to treat until symptom free, and I had that within hours of seeing these things. It's quite unnerving!

Thanks again for your efforts! I'll let you know if I find anything or have a reoccurance.
