White Blotches on Platy Fins - Lathargic.

Bob, my platy, has suddenly become ill. She (yes she) was fine yesterday, but when I go check on the tank this morning, she is lathargic and had quickly growing white blotches on her fins.

It is a 10 gallon aquarium with a Aqua filter. I just replaced the cartridge the other day.
There are also 2 tertras I just placed in the tank, too though they seem fine.. I keep the water at about 72 degrees F.

Recently. since my last platy died a short while ago, Bob and Skittles, the other platy have been fighting. I'm wondering if it's fin rot from untreated injuries?

So, I need help asap so I can treat my poor Bob.

Are the white blotches like grains of salt or sand? You may want to give a bit more details, and pics if possible. Replacing filter media can be bad, because you are getting rid of good bacteria. I think you should just rinse that out in old tank water rather than throw away, and look at some ways to keep some existing filter in with any new cartridge you put in, when it needs to be thrown. But, as far as the disease, it's helpful to know if it's a fungus (like fin/tail rot) or a parasite (like ich etc) You'll need to give more details. Do you know your water parameters?

I've been doing some research on diseases and it appears not to be ich. I did pop on over to Walmart today and buy some dissolve-able medicine that kills ich, parasites and fungus infections. The spots are only on the fins and mouth and are spongy-ish. From what I've seen it looks like fin/mouth rot, since it's only on the fins and mouth. I don't have the peremeters at the moment, unfortunately. I have to buy a new testing kit. Hopefully the medicine will work well. I also bought a new female platy today to keep the male from harassing poor Bob so much. the meds will also kill any bacteria the new fish might be carrying.
