what a shame

i went to a PETCO (i never go to these places) with my friend yesterday. he was store hoping for new lights. and me being me, i have to walk around and look at the tanks and see what they gotl. and what i saw was one of the most disturbing things i have ever seen. there was a big size tank with tiger oscars, all with "hole in the head disease". well anyway, i also watched as they netted up a couple of these fish to be sold to a customer . they told the customer that all oscars look like this as juvies and these fish will out grow the wounds as they grow. at that point i just could take it anymore and started yelling at them about their stupidity.OMG they had the nerve to tell me that i didn't know what i was talking about. just because they work there dosen't mean their experts ya know. I WILL NEVER GO TO ANOTHER PETCO IN MY LIFETIME.
i think it is very ignorant for a store the hire anyone with no experience.

Yea, I've def had at least a couple of arguments with workers there, they feel that if they work there and I'm just a customer they know more.
Where was this petco?

I was at my LFS yesterday and there was a tank with two discus (sorry mikea) just bobbing around dead, one was SO dead, and I told the employee ""um you got something going on with that tank" and he said "Yeah, discus are very sensitive" I said "Yeah, I know that, but it's pretty unsightly from a customer's point of view". I always point out when there's dead fish, mainly because I know that at some of the LFS that I got to, there is a community water supply and, well, the poor other fish...

I just don't know when to keep my mouth shut.

yeah i try not to buy any fish out of my lfs tanks. i have john(the owner) at one of the lfs order what i need and he calls me day of delivery. so it works out kind good as the next tanks they see from the hatchery are mine starting with QT.

I've found that PetCo's employees, stock, and conditions are not nearly as good as PetSmart's. The PetSmart's around here are actually really good, but not the PetCo's.

What we need to understand is PetCo is huge, and usually one guy to an aquarium section that actually knows what he's doing (usualy "team" leader or something), he has 20-30 tanks he needs to maintain both freshwater and saltwater, he/she can only do so much every day while also assisting customers and other stuff. What I don't like is when they think they know so much more than you, and try to sell you chems and stuff you do NOT need.
I usually point out dead fish also.
