I had that happen to me, but unfortunately it took the fish:( I had two tetras come down with it, and a female and male Guppy. It spread fast and they were gone in the morning. When I saw it on my fish, it looked like a fungus, so what I would recomend is going to the petstore and getting some fungal treatment. When you are treating your fish with these meds, be sure to turn off the filter until the meds have dissoved or been eaten. I've heard that if you take the carbons out of your filter your meds arent filtered out, but I'm not sure.
I also had this problem BEFORE I had a heater. Your water quality and everything can be great, but if the temp is too low, then it brings down the fish's immune system and doesnt have the ability to fight off sicknesses that he would normally be able to fight off. Since I invested in a heater (after I had ick, which is a parasite) I haven't had any problems at all, and haven't noticed any of that white fuzzy stuff that mysteriously took my fish.
Hope that helps!
