Water Levels Continued

Hello Everyone,

I have been posting recently on how my water levels are high and so on. Well, I just found out why. I don't know why I didn't think of this earlier, but it turns out that my tap water where the city I live in contains some ammonia and nitrate.

I was told to not worry about investing in an RO but now... I am not too sure on that. I am really upset that my tap water contains all of that. I thought it was illegal. I don't want to keep doing water changes in my tank because of this... will it harm my fish? I feel like I am on limbo. I don't know what to do.

Have you tried testing your tap water? you should also take a trip to your local Water Dept and request a list of impurities in, and chemicals added to your local tap. You may be very surprised. I would start out small and think about a simple tap filter. If you're going with a marine tank, then think big and go for the R/O. For FW, a simple tap filter (Pur, Brita, ect) should help remove most of the impurities and help keep your levels down.

I'll look into water filters. Thank you... and I am just completely amazed with this whole issue with my tap water being contaminated. I can't believe that not only am I contaminating my fish, but also my dogs. FILTER... HERE I COME!
