Torn fin may be fin rot

So, I thought Cow had ripped his tail fin on some plastic plants I had in his tank (stupid, I know. They have since been replaced by silk ones), but now I'm starting to think it's fin rot.

Does anyone have good pictures of fin rot, or know where I can find some (Google wasn't much help) for comparison?

And what would you suggest as a treatment?

I dont recommend using a medication due to the strees and side affects that may be afflicted to the fish. I HIGHLY recommend using aquarium salt to treat the tail rot. 1 teaspoon per gallon or less. HOpe he gets better.

or a general antibiotic from the lfs. and just keep up 25 percent water changes every other day to keep the prams good and help speed up the healing process
