Is there anything i can do for my tetra?

If you were paying attention i have been having problems with my tetras. i have three, two are larger and stick together and one is a runt and gets picked on. at one time all of my tetras apeared to have ntd but the other ones were able to fight it off. Now the small one is looking just awful. Has spine is so bent its only a mater of time before he can lick his tail.
His color is so bad you would think he was rolling in mud. today i came home and i saw him lying on a peice of driftwood and i felt so bad for him. he is eating fine. Is there anything i can do for him? should i quarentene him? would that even help? should i kill him? Im hoping i can fix him and he will continue the normal growth that he lost and be the size of the other tetras.
sorry no pix.

I would say quarantine him until he grows bigger. Dont put him down unless it is definate he cant survive. Quarantine him immediatly.

What kind of tetras, if it is a schooling type you need at least 6. If you have less than 6 in a schooling fish, they will be more aggressive and pick on the smaller one.

Once he is healed, you can put him back in the tank. If he is still picked on take him out and give him away to a friend that know a lot about fish or give it to your lfs/lps. It would suck if you had to put it down.

There's no cure to NTD(Neon Tetra Disease). It is possible you have misdiagnose the disease for NTD and could be possibly columnaris which is the false NTD but the true NTD appears to be cream in color(the patch where the colors are deleted ).

What tetras do you have?

If you suspect NTD, the only way to prevent transmission to other fish is isolation for further observation and if found to be afflicted with the true NTD, euthanization eventually becomes the answer.

Try to look for these symptoms:
1. Restlessness at night...the 'afflicted' fish swims restlessly and away from the group(which are mostly inactive or still in movement).
2. Curved spine
3. White(A bit like cream) patch on the body..the colors of the fish appear to have been deleted. This is usually starts on the midsection of the body.
4. Erratic swimming...fish appears to swim as if it was getting stiff or paralyzed.

There are other diseases that also can cause curved spines aside from NTD although without the picture, it's hard to narrow down what really is happening.:)
