What was the water conditioner you used? "Prime" is the only one I know of that will detoxify ammonia and nitrite. If it is Prime you're using, I definately recommend you continue to use it, and like the other posts above, that you step up the water changes. Also be aware that Prime's detoxifying effects are temporary. (about 24 hours)
