Suicidal platy in lemming style leap
Hey

One of my platys did a nose dive out of the tank onto the floor. The tank is about waist height. I expected the poor thing to b dead to be honest but it looked intact so i put it back in the tank. This was 2 days ago.

Now the fish has a very sore looking eye. Its very bulbous. n drained of colour. Big and white. I have tried to take a picture but the fish stays in the rock house type thing only leaving to feed.

I am assuming that the injury was caused by the huge leap for freedom but is there any disease that can cause such an infliction??

Also just in passing, ALL platys are pregnant without a male platy in sight lol. They must have some decent storage in there!!! And bought a new platy 2day. Shes a very pretty apricot colour. Beautiful

It probably is in infection... Sounds like pop-eye.

If I had to speculate, I'd say the bacteria was in your tank already, but all the fish were healthy.

When the one did a nose dive, it got an injury, which allowed the infection to take hold.

look in the stickies and look for more info on pop-eye, it'll also tell you how to treat. If the tank is only platys (and plants) then you could try salt, although I'm not sure how well it would work.
