About a week and a half ago, I made a post saying several white dots have shown up on my Betta fish. The day before they showed, I observed him for hours and noticed nothing on his large flowing fins. The next day there were several white grains on his fins and around his beard. Immediately I quarantined him and kept an eye out for any new spots on my other fishies. I attributed this to a drastic measure I took days earlier, I put ice cubes in my tank to cool it down, as it was enduring a severe temperature spike to nearly 32C. A few days later the spots showed up ONLY on my Betta.
Well, none have shown up in the main tank, and the tank I quarantined my Betta in was treated with ich meds. I understand at least 2 weeks should be taken to treat, but it's a rather small tank and probably at the most, 1 gallon.
The spots have been off my Betta's body for the last 5 days or so.
Did I overreact to begin with, perhaps this was not ich? If it were, would the parasites have shown up back on my Betta by now? I reviewed their life cycle many times educating myself on the affliction, and I understand they have just under 3 days, 70 hours, to find a new host once their sacs hatch off the floor. In my Betta tank I did 100% water changes, ensuring that no parasites would be anywhere except for on my Betta had they survived the treatment. to begin with. There have been no new spots for 5 days, and he is free of white grains.
I'm beginning to think it was not even ich, however I don't want to be too hasty here, but I also don't want to put my Betta through hell when there was nothing to treat anyways. This affliction is notoriously pesky to rid a tank of, I find it hard to believe that, IF it WERE ich, it's gone already.
