Spot on Betta's head

Tonight while feeding I noticed a spot on the Betta's head just behind his eye. My eyesight isn't that great but it appears to be a loose or raised scale. I tried to take some pics but he wasn't cooperating very well. These were the best I could get.

Does it look like anything I should be concerned with?

That's funny, my betta JUST had the same thing. It's really hard to tell from your picture, but if it is simply a raised scale that looks like it's about to fall off, I wouldn't worry too much. All I did is a 50% water change to give him clean water to heal in. I think mine just scraped his head on something. The loose scale fell off and it completely healed on its own in a few days. I would give it time and just keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn't get infected.

He is not real cooperative with pics. When I get to close all he does is flair. He gets a 50% WC every weekend anyway so I'll just do it earlier. Thanks

Hi John,

Unless it's fuzzy or spreads I wouldn't be too concerned yet. Just keep a close eye on it for any changes in that direction.

Good luck and welcome.

Like was mentioned before, it may be that he scraped himself on something.

I just got a real good look at it and it's a loose scale. It's only one and no other damage is visable around it. Thanks for all the replies.

Look over your tank decor and remove anything with sharp edges (including plastic plants). Some of those caves and ornaments have hidden sharp points and the plastic plants can have fake "thorns".

Your best bet is to get a leafy silk plant.
