probably serious...

I believe a couple of fish have infected with velvet. I have treated the tank with coppersafe. I really do not have a hospital tank - but I have a one gallon betta tank. One of my red flame dwarf gouramis quit eating and had a milky coloration on his mucus membrane over his scales. Treatment was 5 days ago after he stopped eating about 1.5 weeks ago. His respiration was high. He has lost a lot of weight. About 1/2 of his weight. The discoloration has subsided. He does not swim too much and seems lethargic. should I place him in the one gallon tank and try to feed him from the competitive community of other fish? Does he really even stand a chance? :(

I would give moving him a try. Tou may want to five him live food such brine shrimp. If he does expire, at least you tried.

Evidently very serious...

I feel sad - of course - to report that Vai the red dwarf guorami passed on. The damage was very extensive. His top fin was completely eaten away and many scales near his top fin on his back were gone. I am afraid he suffered. The plecto that showed symptoms seems o.k. All others are fine. I added aquarium salt even in the understanding dwarf guoramis may not appreciate this. The salt turned the damage white, from the velvet, on Vai and the plecto. Even sadder - Steve the other red dwarf and long term pre-my tank - tank mate, has not eaten much but his weight is fine and he shows no physical symptoms. This is inevitable - death - but I feel I need to be more observant.
