I have a 40 gallon tank with 2 black mollys, 2 sunburst platys, cory catfish, rainbow shark, 2 zebra danios. My water is tested every few days and it is good to go and water is perfectly clear. For some reason my angels keep dying and yesterday a zebra danio died, i dont know why. However oneof my black mollys has grayish color on her head and silver around her gills with white stringy poop. Is she sick and casuing the others to die? If so how can i treat it? All my other fish dont appear to have any discoloration on them so i dont think they are sick. All the fish eat good as well.
Test kits can provide good info; however, they don't always tell the whole story. Partial weekly water changes of 30-50 percent will reduce harmful chemistry that doesn't show up during testing. Also, your mix of fish would lead me to believe that there is a possible water source issue. Live bearers and angels really don't share the same PH and hardness requirements. Zebras are some of the most hearty fish going but, in my experience, they appreciate an oxygen rich environment. Also, I would have at least six of them due to their habits. More info as to what testing kit you are using, planting, feeding would be helpful.
I have artifical plants, three air bubblers, two filters, and fish only get fed once a day. The ph is between 7.0 and 7.2 and hardness is at 120, no nitrates or nitrites are present. All the fish seemed to be fine until the black molly got weird looking. I have also had a few other fish die recently for no apparent reason. Ive had angels with other types of fish like platys before and never had issues. this is the first time i have had this issue. water had been changed already and all new carbon. anything else i can do?
