Hi Essjay,

So how is your girl going??

I have had this happen to a few of my girls (Platy's) over the years, but I am yet to find a definite cause..

The only thing that I could put it down to is a secondary fungal infection as a result of a "love bite" from an overly zealous male...I dont remember any of my girls dying from the infection..

Cheers..

Hi Backlash

She's doing just fine! I decided to put her back in the community tank tonight The patches she had are gone, and other than her being a little on the pale side, she's eating well, swimming well and generally behaving as a platy should.

I honestly have no idea what it was, other than a bit of muck from when I forgot to turn the filter back on a few weeks ago.. I haven't got any males in the tank, the only other occupants are bristlenose and snails... So unless it was a bitch-fight or a bristlenose using her as a chew toy, I dunno...

I've uploaded a bit of footage, photos are too hard... lol

The only change I've made to the routine is not feeding them as much... and I now use API Stress Coat Plus in their water changes instead of the plain API water dechlorinator. And I'm still keeping a close eye on them all...

I'm still a bit baffled, so any suggestions are greatly appreciated..

Angry I know what it iii-iiiis.......

I'm almost positive it's not Columnaris.... Yay!!

I'm pretty certain it's velvet... BOOO!!! Most of the Platy's are affected, although the Bristlenose don't seem to be which is strange..

Let the treatment begin....

I'm using a combination of heat (86F), darkness and pimafix.. I have melafix, but not going to use that yet.. The less additives the better me thinks.. If I see no improvement in 7 days, I'll add the melafix..
