I have had this happen to a few of my girls (Platy's) over the years, but I am yet to find a definite cause..
The only thing that I could put it down to is a secondary fungal infection as a result of a "love bite" from an overly zealous male...I dont remember any of my girls dying from the infection..
She's doing just fine! I decided to put her back in the community tank tonight
The patches she had are gone, and other than her being a little on the pale side, she's eating well, swimming well and generally behaving as a platy should.
I honestly have no idea what it was, other than a bit of muck from when I forgot to turn the filter back on a few weeks ago.. I haven't got any males in the tank, the only other occupants are bristlenose and snails... So unless it was a bitch-fight or a bristlenose using her as a chew toy, I dunno...
I've uploaded a bit of footage, photos are too hard... lol
The only change I've made to the routine is not feeding them as much...
and I now use API Stress Coat Plus in their water changes instead of the plain API water dechlorinator. And I'm still keeping a close eye on them all...
I'm still a bit baffled, so any suggestions are greatly appreciated..
