I am new to the hobby and have some questions regarding the treatment of Ich and Fungus.
My tank is 26 Gallons and completely cycled (0 Ammonia, Nitrite and low Nitrate) It contains live plants and the following:
2 Dwarf Gouramis
1 Dalmation Molly
1 Neon Tetra
3 Serpae Tetra
3 Oto Catfish
1 Cory Catfish
I recently went away for a few days and came back to notice that the Molly and Serpae Tetras infected with Ich. I am also noticing that one of the Platties has mild Ich but also appears to have a fungal infection on the bottom of its belly (looks like a larger white blotch)
I have raised the temp to 90deg and have added Jungle Ick Guard in the directed amounts. Further I have added 8 tablespoons of salt. I have also removed the carbon from the filter. This morning I did a 50% water change (and gravel vacuum) and reapplied the medication.
I don't see a long term plan on the medication bottle. It seems to imply that you only use it for a day or two. I noticed in reading the posts in this forum that you must treat Ich for 2 weeks.
Should I continue to perform 25% water changes and medication reapplication for a 2 week period? Is it ok to use medication AND salt for treatment?
How can I also treat the fungus? Can I simultaneously apply fungus medication with the Ich medication or should I do this after two weeks?
Thanks in advance for the expert advice.
