new tank, torn fins :(

So I have a new 10 g. I have it divided into three compartments, no problems there, I have a submersible filter and at first I thought it wasn't too strong, but now one of my boys has torn fins. I know its the filter and I have turned it off. The filter is in his compartment and I don't know what to do. Is there any way I can lessen the current that it creates, which is very little in the first place?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated:)

Most filters have adjustable flows but if it doesn't then positioon the filter so that the flow hits off the side of the tank first to cut down the flow.

you can buy small clamps from your local pet shop which you can attach to the airline tubing to moderate/control the air that comes in your filter. :)

I have seen people give the FILTER its own tiny space and leave holes for the water to flow but not overpower the fish
