Need help with diagnosis please! (Something wierd and contagious...?)

I have a red wag platy that I've owned since november that is swimming near the surface of the aquarium with clamped fins and his pectoral fins seem to be ragged. He is not gasping, or flashing, and is still eating. One other platy in my aquarium is swimming with clamped fins too, but his pectoral fins are not ragged. The first fish has an ununiform sheen to his sides, one spot is starting to look grayish.

What is this? What's the treatment? HELP!

Anyone? Please? I need to know what to treat with to nip this in the butt because I'm gone on wednesday. I have Liquid Super Ich Cure and Powder Super Ich Cure. Would any of these work? I need a diagnosis so I can go and get meds within the hour because I've got to go groom form my mom at a horse show.

It doesn't sound like Ich. It's probably some sort of bacterial infection. Are they with other fish? I'd remove them to a hospital tank until you can figure out what it is (when you have more time).

Minimally, give them some clean water and then try to google image the disease that looks closest to what your fish have.

Sounds like you might need to pick up some diff. meds like Maracyn and Maracyn II. I wouldn't throw that in there until you can figure out if it's necessary tho.

Animal testing is a terrible idea; they get all nervous and give the wrong answers.

I put the two platies into my 5 gallon hospital tank, they're both seeming much better, less fin clamping. My third platy is quite dominant, so I'm sure they're much more relaxed without him there.

I'm going to keep a really close eye on the slimy patch to see if it changes. Mom wondered if the one platy is just an old fish and is at the end of his lifespan...?
