I had a tiger barb with a wound and removed him to a hospital tank and treated with Melafix. The wound started clearing up after a few days. Please research whether it's ok for your ram tho.

I treated with the Melafix for a little over a week and did 50% water changes every other day for three weeks and it cleared up completely.

Hope that works for you. Good luck.

Animal testing is a terrible idea; they get all nervous and give the wrong answers.
