My fish won't eat!

I just gotmy betta fish yesterday and it won't eat! I'm worried about him. And I put a mirror in front of him and he wouldn't do anything! I'm really worried, last night put some food in the tank and he didn't eat it! Now there is tons of disgusting food in the tank. And hes not doing anything. He's lying at the bottom of the tank and not doing anything. I'm really worried! Will anyone help me? :(

ok well first off where did you get the betta? what size tank/bowl is it in? whats the temp of its tank? does the tank have a filter?

it might not be eating because it hasnt settled in yet. usually if you feed them as soon as you get them they wont eat it. if after a few days it still isnt eating then somwething is wrong.

and just so you know, you shouldnt do the mirror trick too often as it will stress the fish out.

another question has your tank cycled? and the water parameters (ph ammonia nitrites nitrates) what are they do you know?

edit : what about the colour of the fish, has it lost any colour or is pale?

I agree, usually they don't eat when you first switch to a new tank.

Now, let's talk about how much your feeding. You shouldn't have "a ton" of food on the bottom of the tank already. What you should be doing is trying to feed either 2 pellets AM and PM or 3-4 daily. Take a turkey baster and suck all the junk off the bottom of the tank before it pollutes the water.

give it some time to settle, other then that try and feed a few times a day only small amounts and clean out the tank, base, it will stop ammonia spiking and your nitrates going to high, which could kill him
cheers
