Molly dead for seemingly no reason

So I lost a male black molly today for seemingly no reason. They were all fine when I checked them before work this morning, they all ate 9 hours later and now he is dead. Could it be because there was a decently large male in the tank with him? A couple of days ago I reset up the 29 gallon removing its filter from the 55 and placing it there, would this have stressed him out that much?

I have never had much luck with Black mollies, i have had 6 in the last year . . . . i have 0 now. They die for no reason , 2 got ich and 1 got bullied. All the other fish in the tank are fine and have lost 0 in the last 18 months.

I have heard that the black mollies grow a lot slower than other colors, how true that is i dont know. But it does seem to be that they are different.
