The love of my tank is very sick : ( ...advice?

Hi all,

Please help! I have a moonlight gourami that I've had for the entire life of my tank (a year and a half). He's always been extremely healthy & active. Here are the symptoms:
*Two days ago his sides became very swollen (first thought: dropsy?) *Once every few hours, he has some trouble staying balanced (second thought: swim bladder?). By staying balanced I mean he'll point directly downwards, or rest in a plant.
*I haven't seen him eat (not even peas!), and has a few white spots on his head (but it's not ich).
*ALSO, he has had a few seizures which break my heart :(

When he's not having an imbalance issue or a seizure :,( he seems ok, swimming around, getting air at the top of the tank... The tank itself is 55-gallons, a mix of tetras, 3 gouramis, plants, good lighting. His fins aren't sticking out, and his eyes look normal from what I can tell; I never looked that closely before so I don't have much of a comparison.

I don't have a hospital tank and had no way of getting one this weekend, but have tried Melafix, aquarium salt, good vibes, whatever I *have* had access to that seems like an appropriate method of treatment.

Also, there's a bloodfin tetra that's also swollen, and swimming in circles. I've been too busy obsessing over my fav. gourami to even worry about the tetra, although they are likely connected.

I would REALLY appreciate your thoughts and advice. Is there any hope? It's so hard to narrow my opinion down to one disease, because the poor guy is just NOT doing well. This was really long, so I'm sorry, and thanks so much if you got this far.

I'll ask the obvious questions: what are your levels? Any recent changes? CO2 injection? Lack of oxygen?

The levels are all normal - my roommate checks all the usual suspects (ph, nitra/ites, etc.) & we've never had a problem. We do 20% water changes weekly, and we've got our powerhead on to oxygenate the tank. I don't usually do CO2 injections...

Thanks for your help, I'm sorry for not adding this information sooner.

So he is gone? Very sorry. I didn't have anymore advice to give (even though I have yet to give any) but it's too bad some of the more knowledgable members couldn't help. I don't know what their lifespan is, but maybe he was just old?

Those white spots that aren't ich could be symptoms of velvet - keep an eye on the rest of your tank, it's quite deadly.

Best to you
