Lost a Neon Tetra

I noticed yesterday that one (of nine) Neon Tetras had lost his color (washed out) from his mid section to his tail. I looked it up on here and see it was Neon Tetra disease. In hopes of saving the others, I netted him today, placed him in a plastic bag and put him in the freezer to euthanize him. Abbey was not happy, but it was the right thing to do. We've had them so long now, I'm not sure why this happened out of the blue.

Sorry for your loss! Just for future reference, I would recommend using clove oil to euthanize. It's never fun to do that, but you're totally right in doing it!

I've never treated neon tetra disease, but I know that it's caused by fish ingesting infected material like live food. After further research, I found that a diatom filter could help with the free parasites (I guess that's kind of "duh!" and expensive, but it's all I found. Sorry!). Good luck!
