Ick infested tank
Hello All, my 10 gallon freshwater tank unfortunately has come down with Ick in the last couple of days. Nearly all my fish are showing signs of it. I have 4 Neon, 4 Silver-tip tetras, and 2 platties. There are some white spots on them, but not many. I read that raising the tank temp cures most of the problem but my Heater does not have a adjustable thermostat. Its just programmed to stay at 78. I really don't want to nuke my tank with ick remover as i have read that it can harm your fish and water quality. What do i do at this stage? Daily water changes? Thanks.
My 55 gallon tank came down with Ick. It killed every fish I had except for my Rainbow Shark even after I had treated it with some Ich medicine. I suppose you could try water changes but I don't think it will help too much...
Don't you sit and judge me from a high and mighty seat. Don't you shrug it off until you've walked a mile in my bare feet. Cause there are people that you pass by every day with harder cards than yours in life to play.

the way ich lives out it's life is it is only in the gravel or water for a short amount of time. while it is waiting for it's new host body. it isn't a free floating parisite that water changes would cure. you could try and keep it from becoming an over bearing problem by vaccuming the gravel as much as possible but assuming that your tank is planted that would be close to impossible without taking out all the plants and that would change your tanks methods. i would invest in an adjustable heater. and personally i would treat it with the ich medicine. the up in temp will hasten the cycle and allow the medicine to kill it more quickly as it will be in between the stages of being attached to a host.
never stop learning, as new things are discovered everyday.
