I am also dealing with ich outbreak. If I were you, I would put all the fish back into your 55 gal. It would save you a lot of time and hassle if you only had to treat one tank. Now, for the treating: I try to use as little chemicals as possible and do things more natural for my fish. Heat and salt. Slowly bring the water temp up to 86 degrees F. Slowly as in one or two degrees at a time, you do not want your fish to go into shock. For salt I use one teaspoon per gallon. It is best to introduce this slowly as well. So the first day I would add one gallon of treated fresh water, with the salt in it, then the next day do two gallons. Each day you need to change 50% of the tanks water. Ok now here is the "ich's trick's" The ich will seem as if it has disappeared, it has not. Ich will freeswim for another 4 or 5 days so keep treating your water and keep the heat up to about 86 degrees Fahrenheit do this for about a week. You will want to add some more oxygen creating things to your tank. Airstones are great! Due to the warmer water the oxygen becomes less. Hard to explain but trust me. If this fails you you may want to stop by your local pet store and get another opinion.
