Is it ICH, ICK, or something else?

Hi all,
I'm at work, so I didn't have time to post an introduction- but I'm looking forward to joining this community =)

In the mean time, I have a disease question. Two neons I picked up this week from the petshop are showing spots on them. They're not white spots, more like grains of salt, but the color of sand. I THINK it's Ick, or Ich. I have not seen the fish scratching themselves. I've read on various forums that a heavy dose of salt (about 1tbsp per 5gal) and daily 50% water changes can cure this, so that's what I've been doing.

Can I get input from anyone on this?

5gal tank
5 neons, 5 fantail guppies, two african dwarf frogs, and a half moon male betta.

Oh, and a tiny pleco.

Reading some of the other threads here, I think it's Ick. My Betta has a single spec on him now too. All the fish are acting normally except the worse of the two tetras. He's kickin' it at the bottom of the tank, and occaisionally comes out to school.

My guppies are playing together as normal. No one's scratching. My pleco is sucking on everything, again, as normal. My frogs are chillen and breathing normally as well.

If it wasn't for the specs, I wouldn't notice that anything was wrong.

I can't increase the temp. No heater. My tank is in my office, which is climate controlled. Temp is usually between 75-80.

My two Anubis plants are doing great, despite the salt.

For my water changes, I'm using tap water with Amquel orange and green (one is for dechlorinating the water, the other is the fish slime one), and aquarium salt (1tbsp/5gal scaled to the amount of water changed).

An update:

I've been doing 50% water changes with 1tbsp aquarium salt per 5gal changed, for almost a week now, and my two worse off neons seem to be recovering. There's only a couple of flecs left on the one I was certain was going to die. He's feeling better and schooling normally again.

My Betta is showing more flecs than he had two days ago, but it's still nothing too major. I noticed he was laying against the rocks yesterday, but he seems to be normal again today.

Keeping my fingers crossed.

I would suggest using a copper med of some sort. Aquaria-sol has always worked for me. I would just use it at 1/2 dose since this is not a major outbreak. Once the spots are all gone, keep using the med at 1/2 dose for 2 more weeks. If you don't ich/ick/whitespot is great at coming back.

.... I'm probably drunk.

This is how I lurk

I know it is difficult but if you could increase the water temperature to 82, it would help.

Thanks all for the suggestions. I continued with 1tbsp aquarium salt/ 5 gal of water. I couldn't invest in a heater just yet, but it seems that the infection is gone. I did 50% water changes every day for a week. Some fish didn't even get sick. I pulled a few out to return to the lps and picked up a couple of threadline(?) tetras, so there's new fish.

We'll see if anyone starts to get sick now.

A teaspoon per gallon would be more lethal to ich than a tablespoon per 5g but still within tolerance for all fish involved. If you don't have a heater, what is the current temperature? At 78 degrees and below, continue salt treatment for at least 3 weeks.

Did you quarantine your new fish?
