Ich Again ...

I was sitting around waiting for my lights to turn on this morning and noticed one of my cherry barbs in the corner not swimming. Sure enough there were a few white spots on him and i looked at the others and only one other had a small white spot on his fin. I was so happy the last time i got rid of my ich outbreak while only losing one fish. Hopefully i caught this one soon enough and don't lose any of my 4 barbs or oto :( Wish me luck i suppose, this sucks.

Did you add any new fish, that may have caused the new ick outbreak?

See if you can get your hands on some ProForm C, it's not as hard on sensitive fish like tetras as other mal. green/formalin meds and works very well. Treat for a week, big water change, see how it looks. If fish come through the treatment OK you may even treat again to knock out any stragglers.

I added my oto about a week and a half or two weeks ago but they were all looking fine as far as i knew up until this morning. The oto has no signs of ich on him.

So far I've been treating the tank with QuICK Cure the last 3 days. I did a water change today and dosed again. My barbs still have some ich spots on them at least 3 of the 4 do. My oto still looks fine and is chomping away at everything in sight. This is just really dissapointing and saddening :( I put as much work as i have time for into the tank and it sucks to have sick fish again. I just hope they make it through. This ick nonsense just makes me want to give up on the aquarium ughhhh!!

What tempt. is the tank?
If you can turn the heat up to 82 deg, the ick will fall off the fish faster.

I've gone through bouts of ick more times than I should have, which only means I get careless or risky too often. The good news is that ick can easily be cured without fish loss if it's caught early. Just remember to maintain the medication for at least a week. Raising the temp as Twistersmom suggests helps as it quickens the life cycle of ick. The parasites can only be killed during the free-swimming stage, and the whole life cycle last several days, so a minimum of one week treatment (with no reduction in the strength of the medication throughout) is best. Some advocate longer, although I have had success with 5-6 days.

Well this morning I've found two of my remaining four cherry barbs passed. And it looks like the other two still have signs of ick on their bodies. I don't have much hope for them though. My oto is doing fine, and has no signs of ick on him. So...i'm thinking all i have to look forward to is my single oto tank :(

Can you post a photo of one of the "spotted' fish? It may be another parasite...I have personally never lost a fish to ick, and never failed to cure it in 5 days. I have had other parasites though...a photo might help one of us pin this down.

Yeah let me charge up the camera and i'll get one up before the end of the day hopefully. I'm assuming whatever it is, is stressing them. They're hiding out inside their log a lot.
