yes my zebra oto is dead... the reason i am posting this is to see if anyone can find out the cause of this death and what do i have to do when i see another fat one again... In fact, i saw one fat regular oto today but it was not as fat as this one though i am slightly concerned about if it's same disease as this one... These pictures i uploaded aren't the best pictures but please help me to find whatever you know from these pictures. I bought seachem Metronidazole the medic and used it once today.

I once had an oto that "blew up" like that and I thought it was because eggs, but the next day she was dead. I never figured out what it was and none of my other otos were effected.
Metronidazole is used for parasitic infections and without knowing what caused the death of your oto I'm not sure I'd want to be treating my tank with Metro. Then again, I've been told that using Metro when a fish isn't sick is like us taking aspirin when we don't have a headache.

Sorry to hear about your Zebra Oto. I can't keep Oto's anymore. It seems like they always die after a month or so after I get them. They are fussy about the water quailty. I just gave up trying to keep them and replaced them with a bushy nosed pleco for algae control.

I didn't know there were different varieties of Oto's but I am thankful that mine are doing so well. I have had them since right after I set up my tank and so far, so good. I hope we can continue on down that road. I really like them.

I am very sorry about your fish. Looks like the poor little dear had a tummy ache.

I had one do the same thing and thought that it might be eggs, but then it suddenly died. It happened to be belly up under powerful lighting and I was actually able to see some sort of parasite (worms, I'm thinking) moving inside the swollen area under the skin. It would be hard to tell without seeing them or cutting the fish's stomach open, but it may be a good guess. Poor oto.

This is a pic of my otto and I just noticed his belly is swelling up and is getting red. Any hope of saving him?
