Ok well i woke up this morning and looked at my fish tank its cloudy i know thats supposed to mean that im feeding him to much. i want to clean his tank but i have to get a gravel syphon thing today. But anyway i was watching him and he looked at me and fluffed his gills a little then yawned or something like that. I looked at him again later and he's swimming around his tank really fast then he did that yawn thing again then he'll look like he's going up for air but he doesnt put his mouth out of the water like he usually does. He just touched the surface with the top of his head then started swimming around quickly again. Is there something wrong with him? :(

When i go to petsmart today im going to get an ammonia tester kit and the syphon i just want to make sure that my little Guido will be ok...

Sounds like your betta is flaring at you! This is normal behavior for male bettas (and some females). They do this as a threat display if they see another male betta or if they see their reflection in the glass, to show off, or sometimes for no reason at all.

What size tank do you have? Most tanks will be cloudy for the first few days as it is 'cycling' or building up the helpful bacteria that break down fish waste. If Guido is eating all of his food then the tank is probably not cloudy due to overfeeding....I thought that's why my tank was cloudy at first too but it was just cycling.

If you have a heaterr and filter and your water parameters are normal, just keep doing the appropriate water changes and your tank will clear up soon!

sorry to hear about your situation.
how big is your tank
is it heated? filtered?

if it is cloudy, as said, it could be going through cycliing; trying to build up benifical bacteria. how much water do you change and how often?
and how much (with what food) do you feed your betta?

its good you have a tank that size

are you feeding your fish pellets or flakes or what?
and if you said you dont have a heater, i highly recommend one. with your tank a mini 7-10 watt one will do. it highy improves the bettas healthy, and activity.

and it really isnt easy to tell how long cycling will take. if you do it right you will have (at the end) 0 ammonia 0 nitrites and less then 20ppm of nitrates. when i cycled my five gallon i think it took about 1 and half weeks.

well i dont have a heater bcuz i read that i didnt need one due to the size of my tank. i have a thermometer and it stays between 77-80. I was thinking about a heater for the winter, i just didnt think that i needed one right now.

I feed my fish both, but lately i've been giving him flakes because he seems to like them better then the pellet things.
