I think my beta has fin and tail rot?

I have had my beta(Rojo) for a year and a half. He was in a 1.5 gallon tank when I started noticing a hairy fungus on his bottom fin.I had bought ICK medicine which looked like it worked. I recently upgraded to a ten gallon which i have split in two and added a new beta. But Rojo started to get worse. I don't have a heater but the water stays about 74-76 degrees. I use tap water with AQUASAFE water treatment.I change the water twice a month.
Now his lower fin is almost gone and the back of his body/tail area has blackened. I had called a fish store and they told me to buy MELAFIX(which I did). So far my other beta Azul has not gotten any spots or fungus.I have been treating the water for a week now but I'm not sure if its working. Rojo still eats but can't swim very well,but as long as he still has some fight in him I'll do anything I can to try and get him better. How long does it take for the MELAFIX to work? Should I continue treatment? I know that I have to treat both fish now because they are in the same tank. I just don't know what else to do.Can someone let me know if I'm at least doing the right treatment?THANKS

melafix should work over a period of a week or two, if there is no white fungus outlining his fins, it has probably worked.

make sure you remove the carbon from your filter when treating with medication, and constant water changes should help him regrow his lost fins much quicker. also you can continue the dosage if you like with melafix because it is all natural and shouldnt have any negitive affects from short term use.

if he is still eating thats a good sign, and good luck with him!
