Exclamation Helpp! ammonia 0.25 cycled

My tank is called the minni tank on my profile! it is 6 gallons and carries 1 Dwarf Puffer non planted aquarium
nitrate 5
nitrite 0
ammonia 0.25
he was acting sluggish and laying on the bottom so i transferred him to my 23 gallon and he is doing okay at the moment
i have done a 50 precent water change and the ammonia has still not gone down! what do i do?

test your tap. Retest the tank. if still there and not in tap change 50% again and do a gravel vac. Retest.

.... I'm probably drunk.

This is how I lurk

Hi! What foods do you give him and how many times per day? It can be from overfeeding..

This happened to me and i put it down to my lack of looking after the tank. I put feeding down to minimal for a while then slowly got it back to normal. Seems to be fine now.

Im not really sure what you can do at this time, it sounds like your puffer has ammonia poisoning. I dont believe there are any medications for that. So that being the case all I can say is keep him in pristene water, test it at least twice a day with liquid testers not the strips as they are garbage. Its just like when a human is poisoned, take them to fresh air (maybe an airstone would help? idk) give him clean water, and feed him high quality food. If he is strong perhaps you can save him. Im not sure what could have caused the ammonia spike. Possibly overfeeding, possibly some forign chem got in your tank and caused a bio bacteria crash. With any luck hopefully you fish will pull through. All I can think of now that will help your fish is perfectly clean water, zero stress, and the fishes own strength. Keep us posted on your puffers status. I truly hope it pulls through. I just recently lost a Green Spotted Puffer and it sucks to lose something as interactive as a puffer. GOOD LUCK!
