I am in panic mode right now! My grandson bought me a beautiful crown tail betta as a gift, and put it into an unoccupied section of my divided 20 gallon tank while I was not home.
I immediately took the fish out and put him in a separate QT tank when I got home. I would say he was in with my other betta for about 3-5 hours before I got home. When I scooped him out, some of his tail fins seemed to fall off. He began acting strangely a few hours later. He was dangling vertically from the top of the tank and seemed to be gasping for air, and I think I saw white "fuzz" around his mouth and head. He died during the night.
I'm guessing this might have been Columnaris, but I'm not sure. Whatever it was, my other 3 betta were exposed to it for 3-5 hours! None of them are showing any symptoms as of now. I'm not sure what to do at this point, I've heard that Columnaris is very contagious, and spreads quickly. Should I treat the aquarium as a precaution? If so, what would be best to use?
