HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!BETTA SICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My red betta fish (Ariel) was doing great in his 2.5 gal tank. I cleaned it today and when i put him back in he was fine. Later, i checked on him and he was lying on the bottom. He never does this, he is very hiper all the time. I thought that maybe he was cold but the water was really warm. Like maybe 80 degrees or something. My mom said i could have put to much dechlorinator in it because the water smelled strong. Earlier, i found that he wasn't moving just in his plant breathing slowly. I removed a bunch of the water and replaced it with bottled water. I thought it would dilute whatever was hurting him. I am really confused please help me and Ariel! :(

Uh no. I forgot. It was too warm! I think it might have been temp shock but would he still be suffering?

The bottled water may have been worse. Unless you know exactly what is in it, then it can potentially be worse than hard Tap in a city.

You also should not remove the fish when you do WC's. This stresses her out way too much, and is much easier doing it when she is in the tank. Plus, on a 2.5, that should be a breeze doing it 2/3 times a week dependent on your filtration.

+1. 50% water changes 2x a week are adequate, next time make sure the water is the same temp and follow the instructions on the dechlor. What brand are you using?

I think he is dead. I feel guilty because one time i wished he was female. He isnt coming out of his cave and i can faintly see him. He isn't moving. All his fins are slicked together. :(

Oh the brand? um...Wardley Essentials Chlor Out. You use 1/2 tsp for 10 gal so i did a tiny drop. Like really tiny, but it smelled really strong. I am so imbarrassed. and i feel bad for Ariel.

whenever you add soemthing a little risky, you have to remember to let the water age.

Did you put the chlor-out in the water while your bettas was swimming in it still?
