Any medication you use will help. I don't know if you just didn't spell it right, used something else, or I forgot what you typed in the time it took me to type this, but I use Melafix. Melafix is relatively cheap, compared to other medicines, and is a good cure-all for everyday small bacterial infections. However, if your fish has something more serious than a mild case of ich or something like that, you need a specialized medication. If it's expensive, it will usually work . I would not risk the cheaper stuff unless you're able to lose some fish. Also, with more expensive medications, it's always good if you have some left over. With cheap stuff, you can only expect to lose more fish the next time you use it.

why did you think it was a good idea to keep going over the top of the tank
when you realized you couldn't breathe outside water?

I'm assuming you mean Angelfish? Anglerfish are really hard to keep in aquariums... They're also from the deep sea.

Do you mean angelfish?

That doesn't sound good- may be some sort of parasite or worms.

Can you give us more info?
Ammonia, nitrite, ph, tankmates, tank size?

When I see someone write angle fish, I assume it's angelfish. That's just me, but it's probably a safe assumption.
