Help :(

Hello,

I have a yellow spotted puffer fish (I bought two of them from Walmart). The sign said they can go in freshwater, and that they eat dried blood worms.

One of the fish has taken a change for the worst since Sunday, he has become very skinny and sickly. And he does not want to eat what was given to him.

Any ideas??? Please help!

You didn't say what size your tank is, how long you have had it set up, and if there are any other fish living in there. The puffers should be kept in a single species tank (just puffers, nothing else). They appreciate frozen foods like brine shrimp, and will eat small pond snails (the kind that usually come with live aquatic plants). Good luck.

1.When did you purchase the puffers?
2.What size is your tank, how long has it been running, are there any other fish in it?
3.What are your water stats?

I'm sorry to hear about your puffer. The #1 no-no is Do Not Buy Fish From Wal-Mart! Almost every time I go to Walmart, some or all of their tanks are infested with diseases (usually ick). It's so sad watching the fish suffer like that. The people who work there seem to know absolutely nothing about fish. I would never, ever buy fish from Walmart. That's probably the source of your problem.

Pls try to post a pic of your puffer. I'm doubtful if there is ever a yellow-spotted puffer. Some tend to need brackish water conditions until marine as they grow.

I'm not familiar with Walmart due to different geographical origin but I have to ask. Does Walmart used only one water system connecting all tanks? Chances are the possibility of diseases present can be high.

I believe so because it seems it's never just 1 or 2 tanks that are infected. It's always several or all of them. I just feel so sorry for all those fish that die every day becuase of Walmart. Hundreds I'm sure, maybe even thousands, die every singe day

More like a slaughterhouse, I think.
They seem not so dedicated to fish judging by what you said as a store selling ranges of products like toys.

yes, walmart is america's "one stop shop" store...you can literally go there and buy EVERYTHING you need to survive, from pet stuff to groceries, cleaning supplies, house decorations, hunting stuff, automotive repair (they will even change your oil etc while you shop) plus most of them also have hair, nail salons, a bank, and an optometrist in the store. plus there is always some type of little restaurant in there too. plus you can buy clothes and medicines and there is a pharmacy...you can really buy everything there...but everyone goes there so its a pain to shop cuz its always so crowded, and unfortunately, they DONT know anything about their fish so they are all living in the same conditions and all sick...they put the weirdest combos of fish together, resulting in death...its so sad =( NEVER buy your fish from walmart...nevah

I agree. The last time i went to wal-mart and looked at the fish, there were cichilds in with the gouramis. And there is never an employee to be found if you have a quesion about stuff. On the up-side, they have good prices on their aquariums.
