has anyone used Melafix......

Has anyone used Melafix for bacterial or fungal spots. I've done research on meds for a particular spot on my parrot fish's tail fin. Melafix's label reads that it's a wide spectrum bacterial and fungal medication. I diagnosed the fish and I believe it's got saprolegnia which is a fungus, even though I had not seen any signs of prior injury. Some of the treatments suggested different remedies that needed to hand rubbed on to the fish. I'm not comfortable handling the fish, it's large (as big as my med size female hand),and it's also my favorite out of the two tanks I have. Oh, I do 60%water changes in this 75 gal tank, every week and I searched for decaying food etc.

Thanks for ANY input.

havn't tried that one, but MAROXY works pretty good too. and maybe instead of 60% u should lower it a little (unless the tank is really dirty every week) cause your taking away a lot of that bacteria that he has adapted too... but do what YOU r comfortable with for your fish. hope it gets better.

It won't hurt to try it as long as you don't have any labyrinth fish in the tank. These would be gourami, betta, or paradise fish. It's a homeopathic tonic that I hesitate to call a med. It's actually an oil extract from tea trees. It has antibacterial and antifungal properties and seems to speed up the healing process of wounds.

The maroxy the other poster suggested is more of a true antifungal med. I've not used it yet though so I can't tell you anything from experience.

I've used it with great success with wounds on a few tiger barbs. I tend to under-dose and do frequent water changes while treating a fish.
