Guppy Epidemic!!!!

Hi I currently have a 29 gallon guppy tank set up with roughly 30-35 guppies in it of different sizes and ages. But in the past week, the deaths have been many. Due to fungal growth and infections, I have lost a total of 13 fishes. I am still taking out dead bodies.

When I first noticed the infection, I used Pimafix antifungal fish remedy, which didn't seem to help much. Then I put in some awuarium salt in one of those little jars, which has seemed to slow up the deaths. Can anyone help me to prevent this from happening again or to stop it now?

I have had community tanks for a while and I knew that guppies were prone to disease, but I have never experienced this before. Thanks for any help! [/i]

Sticky at "Fresh water Emergencies and Diseases" asks Please read before posting... I have found that many more responses are possible if more info is presented. They pretty much cover everything whuch makes it lot's easier to eliminate possible causes and to identify possible problems. Has saved my bacon a few times.

The most important medication in your fish medicine cabinet is.. Clean water.

Your case sounds more like columnaris to me than fungal infections. Do you have pics of your fish? We need more information as 1077 had asked you earlier. You'll need maracyn (erythromycin) in this case or furan2 to stop this problem.

Well thanks for the help guys, and yes the fishes symptoms sound a lot like columnaris, besides the fact that my guppies do not have any mouth fungus, but everything else sounds about right. As far as I can see, there is only one female guppy left that has any visible problems, so I think that the problem is taken care of. Sorry about not reading ahead before posting, but I am new to this forum as well as posting. Thanks though!
