fungus i think?

So last night my betta out of nowhere was in terrible shape. We had done nothing to the tank, no changes, and all of a sudden i checked him out when i got back from a meeting and he was twitching. every 30 seconds or so he'd have a head twitch, and he was no longer swimming around the tank, but just chillin in the corner.

Now, his fins seem to be deteriorating VERY rapidly (extremely stringy, id say he's lost about half of his finnage, and he has what looks like white fungus growing on the edge of his fins, around his eyes a little, and just a little on his side.

This happened so fast, so we isolated him in a one gallon tank, added a little bit of aquarium salt and some "betta fix remedy" which says it cures fungus and bacteria infections, fin rot, etc. He looks to be in terrible shape, doesn't even swim. He just floats until he needs to breathe.

Any ideas?

also, since i can't edit it, my water parameters are fine, ammonia and nitrites are 0, nitrates ar at around 10, which is hardly harmful at all, so im rather perplexed.

and none of the other fish are showing any symptoms whatsoever of being sick.

Tha's quite strange. Is it possible he was attacked by another fish? Often fungus is the consequence of an injury. I can't think how it would have happened so quickly though. Since it's all over his body it seems more like he's been attacked than a single injury or finrot.

he's been in there for 2 months with no signs of anything coming close to attacking him. so if it happened we never saw it, no fish have ever been aggressive towards him. (his mates are some danios and a couple corys)

Danois can be quite nippy. They are a fish that with bettas are something that some people swear against, and some people think is fine. It all seems to depend on the fish.

Any chance of a photo so we can see him better?

The good news is that if it is due to the danios nipping him, he will recover since you have isolated him.

it wasnt. he's dead already. and yet, every other fish in the tank is perfectly healthy as are the water parameters. I can show you the betta fish, but its not pretty, whatever it was it spread fast..

He went from that to this in LITERALLY 24 hours in perfect water parameters and with "betta fix" an antibacterial/fungal conditioner.



You want to talk about mindblowing.. Good thing we isolated him as soon as we saw he was twitching, and should we perform water changes to eliminate any chances? Im iffy about adding aquarium salt to help boost their immune systems with the corys beign sensitive to it and all.

Sorry I really can't think what that might be. Hopefuly somebody else will be able to help. Just wanted to say that I'm sorry about your loss. He was very pretty. :(
