Driftwood Problem

Hi Everyone,

I have only recently in last 6 months started to keep fish. I have had a 2ft tank 60 litres capacity setup for about 2 weeks 1 Fish a Brittlenose catfish and the ammonia levels have gone up and down from 5 parts per million to 0 parts per million i tested it this evening and it was 2ppm and nitrites were 5ppm so i did i water change of 20% and i noticed on a piece of driftwood i had has little white fur or growth on the wood. Is this dangerous especially when i would like to stock the tank with 2 or 3 fish over the next week should i delay on this or is this not a life threaten problem for the fish tank?

Cheers Bradley

Take out the wood, give it a scrub with a cloth of sorts(not chemically infused) and boli the wood, you should be fine. :)

Hi Bradley and welcome to the forum

It sounds to me like your tank hasn't cycled. Any ammonia or nitrite levels are toxic to fish. I would suggest that you carry out a series of water changes to bring the levels down, and keep them as low as possilbe.

Let us know if you have any more questions :)
