definatly being eaten !

Got up this morning to see our little fish with the shredded tail floating around in the corner with NO tail whatsoever So its definatly being cannibalised by one of the others .. we only have Goldfish , a sucker fish and a snail in the tank , plenty of plants and everything been fine for months until now , Anyone know why know they want to each other ?

I'm assuming the goldfish is the one with the shredded tail? It must be one of the other goldfish then. The snail obviously didn't do it.

It might not necessarily have been eaten by other fish - it could esily be a bad case of finrot which can rot fins very fast. I'd treat for finrot but if it's reached the body you may find other complications (I had a betta that this happened to...his ventrals disappeared overnight, the rot hit his body and he died eventually).

hi,shame your first post is an emergancie
welcome aboard.
just a couple of questions,if that's ok :)
What are your tank readings ?
also what sort of sucker fish do you have in there.?
how many goldies do you have, and are they the same,
or do you have mixed gold fish ?
was there any red streaks in the tail ?

It could be a couple things but could very well be an attack by another fish. Somethig else that could have happened is sometimes a fish will get too close ot the intake of the filter and when they react it will rip off the fin instantly. If it wasn't sucked up by the filter then it could hvae been eaten by the other fish.

Although I have seen fin rot take off a fin in a couple days I have never seen it happen overnight so I can't help there.

The suckerfish could well be the culprit but we need to know what type it is. A common pleco could be to blame even though you don't hear of them being aggressive. I have heard of them taking out small fish and I have seen them munch on ghost shrimp very happily.
